OAKDALE – Weston Ranch stayed poised and battled through the night but left Oakdale on the short end of a 48-0 score.

Senior quarterback Muhammad Khan and the Cougars (0-2 Valley Oak League, 1-4) opened the game with the ball at their own 20. Kahn found wide receiver Marque Watson for a gain of eight, but the positives were few and far between after that.

The Mustangs forced the Cougars to punt three plays later and Darus Nelson scooted up the sideline for a 52-yard return to make it 7-0.

Things unraveled quickly for the Cougars, who allowed five rushing touchdowns in the first half and trailed 42-0.

Nelson and Frankie Trent had two touchdowns apiece, while Brock Whiting, Dominic Orvis and Crue Freeman also found the end zone on short scoring runs.

Although down, by 48 midway through the fourth quarter, the Cougars continued to battle. Weston Ranch put together a seven-play drive and reached the red zone but a bad snap sailed over Khan’s head. The Mustangs’ Nate Higle fell on the ball, putting an end to a long night for Weston Ranch.

The Cougars return home for a Valley Oak League showdown against the Kimball Jaguars (1-4, 0-2) next Friday.
