Sierra High’s sophomore football team definitely earned its first Valley Oak League victory of the season, holding off a determined Oakdale squad in a 21-20 victory Friday at Sierra High.

Sierra stood its ground after Oakdale High scored a touchdown with 40 seconds remaining in the contest. The Mustangs went for two and came up short when their final-chance pass attempt came up short.

Sierra got touchdowns from Jared Silveira (1 yard run), JoJo Macias hauled in a 20-yard touchdown pass and Hunter Johnson got in the end zone with a 10-yard TD reception.

Sierra got quality defensive efforts from Mateo Hernandez, Devin Nunez, John Cebelli, Treyvon McCray and Ryan Vasquez.

The Timberwolves will try and make it two straight to open VOL play when they meet up with the East Union Lancers Friday.
