So far, so good for Ripon Christian’s girls basketball team.

The Knights made it four straight to open their first campaign in the Southern League by whooping Denair 58-32 on the road Thursday.

Alger twins Mikaela and Morgan highlighted the victory with their all-around play. Mikaela produced 12 points, 19 rebounds and five assists; and Morgan contributed 10, seven and five.

The win sets up next Tuesday’s pivotal home game against defending SL champion Turlock Christian (4-0, 9-7). The last time the two teams squared off was in last year’s Sac-Joaquin Section Division V playoffs, with Turlock Christian prevailing 55-45 in the semifinal showdown.

“We’re very happy with the way we’re playing in the Southern League,” first-year RC head coach Ed Mulder said. “Obviously, 4-0 is where we want to be, but we are nervous about Turlock Christian — that’s a very good team, and there’s a reason why they’re the team to beat.”

Trans Valley League

Ripon 42, Hughson 23

Trailing 5-2 going into the second quarter, Ripon (3-0, 13-3) used a 22-2 flurry to snap out of its early funk and coast to a blowout win.

“There was a lid on that basket,” Ripon coach George Contente said. “We had good looks, they just weren’t falling. It seems like every time we go down there that happens.”

Seniors Rachel Rodriguez and Kendra Contente led the way with 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Next for Ripon is four-time defending TVL champion Modesto Christian at home Tuesday.
