The combination of strong defense and sure-shooting helped the Ripon Christian girls cruise to its second victory in as many nights, this time by a 48-28 margin over the Downey Knights in the consolation championship of the Escalon Tournament Friday.
Mikaela Alger once again served as the leading scorer for the Knights with 19 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to prevent Downey from capitalizing on opportunities.
“We rebounded really well tonight and played good defense,” Ripon Christian head coach Ed Mulder said. “I’m really happy about the way that we have progressed, especially since we have four girls that came from volleyball and only practiced with the team once.”
The Knights will take the court again on Thursday when they travel to Hughson for the Huskies’ tournament.
Another strong performance by Logan Vos helped propel Ripon Christian to its second victory of the season Friday night in a 64-32 win over Waterford in the third round of the Ron Petersen Tip-Off Classic in Riverbank.
Vos racked up 24 points to lead the Knights in scoring while Danny Vos finished the game with eight points. Both Jared Goslinga and Tim Ignacio contributed seven points apiece.
“We played better as a team tonight,” Ripon Christian head coach Ron Vander Molen said. “After the start of the game we must have come out on a 22-2 run. We switched to a zone defense, and then Logan got going.
“It was good to see him go off the way he did tonight and the way we played behind him.”
Ripon Christian takes the floor again tonight against Denair at 4 p.m.
