The Timberwolves’ talented junior winger has been thorn on the sides of their crosstown rivals this season.
Last Friday, she had a hand in every goal scored in a 4-0 win at East Union that kept Sierra (9-1, 18-3-2 overall) at the top of the Valley Oak League table. Reyes scored two goals and two assists.
“I feel really good being able to help the team win,” Reyes said after the game.
Decimated by injuries and illnesses, East Union hung tough with the Timberwolves for the first 20 minutes. The game changed after Reyes delivered her first assist in the 24th minute. She found midfielder Maitland Kohoutek, the tallest player on the field, with a laser accurate corner-kick cross. The 5-foot-11 Kohoutek did not even need to jump to head it in.
“I saw her call for the ball, and I was like, ‘OK, just aim and focus,’” Reyes said. “I ended hitting it right to her.”
Reyes doubled the lead seven minutes later on another corner kick. Her corner kick was deflected away, but she found an open spot near the opposite post and was on the receiving end of Hannah Hint’s cross.
Reyes struck again early in the second half with a banger, then fed Zoe Sutton for the final goal.
In four crosstown match-ups, Reyes contributed to 10 of the 14 goals (five goals, five assists) scored against Manteca and East Union.
For the season, she has 16 goals and 14 assists. The assist total is fifth most in the Sac-Joaquin Section.
Sierra travels to Patterson tonight and caps the regular season next Monday, Feb. 10 at home against Mountain House.
