The Timberwolves’ 5-foot-11 quarterback and safety played a big part in two blowout Valley Oak League wins against Mountain House last week.
Not only did she throw for eight touchdowns, she came up with six interception on defense.
“She makes a huge impact,” Sierra coach Chris Zalunardo said. She has the ability to read where the ball is going, and that’s where she gets her interceptions. On the other side, she has the ability to read the field and what the defense is doing, and she can get it to the open player.”
Sierra trounced the Mustangs 46-12 at home on Sept. 24. Kohoutek, who shares snaps with talented freshman Tessa Zalunardo behind center, completed 11 of 16 passes for 202 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, she had three tackles and three interceptions.
The T’wolves again tames Mountain House two days later, 52-0. Kohoutek produced nearly-identical stats, finishing 13-of-16 for 253 yards and four TDs. She did not throw an interception all week. On the other side of scrimmage, she had another three tackles and three picks while adding three pass deflections.
Sierra capped the week with a 5-1 VOL record, 12-5 overall.
“We’ve been working about it all year, and I feel like we all came together during the Mountain House games,” Kohoutek said. “Everyone connected really well on offense and defense.”
Kohoutek has been productive across the board all season. Offensively, she has completed 55.7% of her passes for 1,547 yards and 21 touchdowns against five interceptions; rushed for 217 yards and a TD; and caught two passes for 15 yards.
On defense, she has 25 tackles, nine interceptions and nine pass deflections.
“I love being involved (on both sides of scrimmage),” Kohoutek said. “I probably enjoy playing safety the most, just because I just love playing defense, for some reason. I also do love playing quarterback and celebrating with my teammates when we score."
