ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Angel Zapata, Weston Ranch boys soccer
AOW Angel Zapata

The senior striker has placed his name among Weston Ranch greats of seasons past.

Last Friday at Central Catholic, Zapata became just the third Cougar to score four games in a single match. Weston Ranch dominated the Valley Oak League contest, 8-1.  Former standouts Joseph Mayorca (2016) and Robert Gonzalez (2019) were the previous to do it. Mayorca, a two-time VOL MVP and two-time Sac-Joaquin Section champion, did it twice.

Zapata got on the scoresheet in all three of Weston Ranch’s wins last week, totaling seven goals and three assists. The Cougars also dispatched Kimball and Manteca in routs. He is the team’s leading scorer for the season with 16 goals and nine assists, and his 41 points ranks him fifth in the SJS, according to stats entered on MaxPreps.

“Angel is an extremely hard worker; he works both sides of the ball,” Weston Ranch coach Francisco Cisneros said. “He had seven goals and three assists last week and is in top form. He had in a week what I would consider good for an entire season. Absolute joy to have on the team.”
