The Weston Ranch junior ran away from the field Saturday night in the Sacramento Meet of Champions Invitational, easily winning both the shot put and the discus in Beaver Stadium at American River College.

“It was a very good meet,” Mellion said. “I have had some trouble getting back where I need to be but there was some good competition here so I feel that helped me throw a little farther.”

Her effort of 42 feet, ¼ inch in the shot put was a full 2 feet better than second place. Later in the meet she finished 3 feet ahead of the runner up in the discus with a throw of 134-1.

Mellion’s next action will be Friday, May 6, in the Valley Oak League Track and Field Championships at Weston Ranch.
