The San Francisco State-bound Caratachea continued to hot start on Tuesday in an 8-0 non-league shutout of Sonora, striking out 12 compared to just one walk in a complete-game three-hitter.
It was a solid follow-up to her perfect outing last Wednesday, Feb. 28 when Ripon blanked Tokay 13-0 in four innings. The Indians rallied for 10 runs in the top of the fourth, and the game was called early with Caratachea in full control. She retired all 12 of the batters she faced, striking out 10 of them. The Tigers (2-1) were coming off two straight wins in which they scored 15 apiece.
Ripon, now 3-0, started its season with a 5-0 win over visiting Manteca on Feb. 13. Caratechea twirled a two-hitter, fanning 12 while walking none.
The two-way standout is also doing it at the plate, reaching five times in nine plate appearance. She’s hitting 3 for 7 with a double, two runs, two RBIs.
