The Lathrop girls basketball team put together one of its most complete efforts of the season Thursday against Beyer as it gears up for a challenging week of Western Athletic Conference games.

Sophomore forward Shakara Porter produced 19 points, 15 rebounds, four steals and three assists in the Spartans’ 62-40 win. Tatiana Lowery added 18 points, three assists and three steals.

Lathrop (4-0 WAC, 14-5 overall) built a 31-18 halftime lead and widened the gap with a 20-point third quarter.

Kylie Kulina anchored the visiting Patriots (0-4, 3-13) with 21 points.

“We knew she could be a volume scorer, so our goal was to freeze everybody else out,” Lathrop coach Dwayne Davis said. “We played very good team defense tonight and really followed the game plan. We didn’t put them on the (free-throw) line, which is a big emphasis. They only shot five free throws, and this is the second game in a row we shot more free throws than the opponent.”

Sierra Adams (six rebounds), Riana Delacruz and Mariana Delgado (seven rebounds) each scored six points. Milyn Morales pitched in six rebounds and two blocks.

The Spartans have two big road games next Monday and Tuesday at Johansen and Modesto, respectively. They return home Thursday to face Los Banos.
