The Manteca Futbol Club Benfica ’04 girls soccer team lived up to its lofty state ranking in the first round of the State Cup.

Benfica went undefeated in pool play, completing its tour de force with a 5-1 victory over Placer United Soccer Club ’05 Red on Sunday at Woodward Park.

The under-9 girls went 3-0 in State Cup games, outscoring its opponents 18-1. Benfica also recorded wins against the San Juan Spirits ’05 White (6-0) and Sac United Extreme Red ’04 (7-0) earlier this month.

Savannah Cordero and Jocelin Roa led Manteca’s charge on Sunday with two goals apiece. Madee Iniquez also scored for MFC, ranked No. 4 out of 84 in their age group in Northern California.

The teams will be re-ranked into new divisions and flights based on their first-round results. When the State Cup resumes in November, Manteca FC will have to play four games in a weekend.

So far, the girls have proven they can handle the workload.

In addition to State Cup games, Benfica has travelled to Los Angeles for the Blues Cup and played in several league games.

On Saturday, MFC crushed the Ajax United ’05 White at Modesto Christian.

Cami Silva, Annika Beal, Zoie Willson, Cordero, Roa and Iniquez found the back of the net in the 8-1 victory.

Benfica is coached by Manuel Pires, Dinesh Singh and Frank Cordero.
