Bergmans 37 carries TC past Ripon Christian

Halie Bergman was on her game Tuesday night.

The standout 5-foot-10 guard torched the Knights for 37 points as host Turlock Christian prevailed 66-56 in a battle of the Southern League’s top squads.

Natalie Snyder added 17 points for the defending champion Eagles, who moved to 5-0 in league and 16-2 overall. Turlock Christian needed the lift from its two guards with 6-2 center Marly Burton held to just two points.

Kaylie Colyn finished with 13 points for Ripon Christian (4-1, 11-3). Mikaela Alger chimed in with 11 points and 17 rebounds, while Mikayla Manus had 10 points. Morgan Alger and Teagan Manus each pumped in nine points.

“(Bergman) did a really good job for them tonight,” Ripon Christian coach Ed Mulder said. “We had a poor shooting night.”

Trans-Valley League

Modesto Christian 61, Ripon 32

The Crusaders (4-0, 13-5) proved once again that it’s a one-team race in the TVL, limiting Ripon (3-1, 12-5) to just eight points in each quarter while creating offense with their pressure defense.

“Too many turnovers,” Ripon coach George Contente said. “That’s what killed us.”

Ruth Waters headed Ripon with 12 points, with eight more coming from Tia Sidtikun. The Indians will be tested again Thursday when they play host to Riverbank (3-1, 11-4).

Sophomore

Ripon Christian 63, Turlock Christian 15

The Lady Knights (5-0, 12-2) continued their march for a second consecutive Southern League crown with yet another landslide victory Tuesday.

They were up 36-6 at halftime.

Kirstin Bowman’s 14 points and seven rebounds led the way, while Carly Tillema chipped in 12 points and six rebounds. Alex Easthan poured in 10 points to go with seven boards.
