Boellert leads Lathrop golf win in first VOL match

STOCKTON — Led by German-exchange student Mads Boellert, Lathrop High’s boys golf team opened Valley Oak League play Thursday with a 278-343 victory over host Weston Ranch at Van Buskirk Golf Course.

Boellert carded a 4-over-par 40 to lead all scorers.

Fellow Spartan Luke Marcello tied for second overall with a 54. Sebastian Iniquez was third with a 55, while Aaron Long and Andrew Lam each turned in a 64.

Justin Ordner paced Weston Ranch with a 54. He was followed by David Corona’s 64, Jacob McClintock’s 73, Jesus Guerrer’s 76 and Skyler Nguyen’s 76.

 

Kimball 261,

Manteca 267

Matsua Garcia Mendes carded a solid 7-over 44 at Manteca Park Golf Course, but the Buffaloes (0-2, 1-3 overall) were edged out by visiting Kimball. 

Inigo Jaque and Dominic Leduc finished with a 45 and 50, respectively, for the Jaguars.

Additional scorers for Manteca are Saleem Safi (59), Marc Buenrostro (53), Adrian Gonzales (54) and Isaac Bill (57).

East Union 260

OAKDALE — Oakdale’s Calvin Reed edged out teammate Ryan Meyer and East Union standout Tyler Griggs for medalist honors with a 1-over 36 at Oakdale Golf & Country Club. The Mustangs improved to 3-0.

For East Union, Kyle Dorland finished with a 40, Gabriel Espinoza a 55, Brandon Ugalino a 54 and Dawson Mix a 63.

 

Escalon 225,

Ripon 274

RIPON — Defending Trans-Valley League champion Ripon (0-1, 1-2) started its title defense with a loss, as Danny Bava led Escalon with a 6-over 42 on the Spring Creek Golf & Country Club back nine.

Nico Ilardi and Cade McCusker spearheaded the Indians with a 46 and 48, respectively. Rounding out scoring were Seth Whitley (59), Aidan Nillson (60) and Kenny Johnson (61).

 

SOFTBALL

Sierra 4,

Ceres 3

Sam Lorge went 2 for 2 with a homer, double and two RBIs as the Timberwolves held off visiting Ceres on Tuesday. 

Nicole Gardner and Savanna Guzman also hit 2 for 2. Guzman was the winning pitcher, logging four innings in relief and striking out four in the combined three-hitter. Lindsey Walljasper went the first three and fanned five while allowing an unearned run. 

 

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Manteca 3,

Chavez 0

STOCKTON — Manteca (4-0) continued its early-season roll with a 25-10, 25-5, 25-17 thumping at Chavez.

Kylan Chandler led a balanced attack with six kills and two aces to go with five digs. Cameron Reis added five kills, while Kyle Bolding, Kyle Reis, Noah Gonzales and Jeremiah Rushing (two blocks) chipped in three apiece.

Setter Jonathan Borres dished out 18 assists and had two blocks. Gabriel Ramirez led the back row with seven digs.

 

BOYS TENNIS

East Union 9,

Lathrop 0

The Lancers only lost six games in the dominant effort.

Luis Tristan led the way with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ritchie Blasé at No. 1 singles. Mathew Trinidad (6-1, 6-1), Mathew Vadachira (6-0, 6-0), Mitchell Hensley (6-1, 6-1), Kelton D’Souza (6-0, 6-1) and Taranjit Singh (6-0, 6-0) also coasted to wins.

Steven Chan and Issac Diaz claimed the lone doubles match, 6-0, 6-0. Lathrop forfeited the other two.
