BOYS HOOPS: Buffs bounce back behind Burciaga’s double-double

MODESTO — Manteca shook off its first-round loss in the Mark Gallo Invitational on Thursday, warding off Stagg 56-45 at Central Catholic behind Jordan Burciaga’s third double-double of the season.
The Buffaloes (4-3) square off with Christian Brothers (6-3) in the consolation semifinals starting 6:30 tonight at Glynn Gym.
Burciaga finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Jake Wirstlin fired 18 points. Spencer Briscoe came up short of his own double-double with nine points and nine boards. Point guard Kendell Ragsdale contributed 10 points and five assists.
After a back-and-forth opening quarter, the Buffaloes stampeded Stagg (5-4) with a 15-5 run in the second. They began tourney action Tuesday with an 80-53 loss to powerhouse Newark Memorial.

Ripon Christian 68, Redwood Christian 56
JACKSON — The Knights’ inside-outside combination was too much for Redwood Christian (2-2) in the Argonaut Quarterback Club Tournament opener.
Braden Van Groningen did his damage from the paint, finishing with 17 points. Reed Vander Hoek, a 6-foot-7 forward, pitched in wine points, Will Gilbert and Jacob Van Groningen did their damage from the perimeter, where they turned in 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Ripon Christian plays tourney host Argonaut tonight at 6.

East Union 70, Merced 44
TURLOCK — Parm Khattra spearheaded a balanced attack with 15 points in the Lancers’ first-round contest in the Godinez Tournament.
Christian Nuon contributed 12 points and 12 rebounds. Lydell King also finished with 12, while Christian Cuevas turned in 14.
East Union (8-2) faces tourney host Turlock tonight at 8:30.

Campolindo 60, Weston Ranch 49
GRIDLEY — Mi’son Coilton knocked down early 3s to help Weston Ranch (0-4) build an early 16-6 lead, but the Cougars were unable to keep up that scoring pace in the 66th annual Gridley Invitational.
It was 27-27 at halftime until the Cougars (4-1) from Moraga won the third quarter, 20-10. They were anchored by sophomore Aidan Mahaney’s 20 points, while Carter Mahaney pitched in 17 points. Emmanuel Callas added 13 points and seven rebounds.
Coilton ended up with 14 points and five assists for Weston Ranch. Gavin Wilburn registered a team-high 16 points and three steals. Freshman Kodey Weary added eight points and three blocks, and Jordahn Johnson pumped in nine points and seven boards.
Weston Ranch gets tourney host Gridley (5-1) today at 5:30.
