BOYS HOOPS: Lathrop Spartans topple Downey High, head into Modesto consolation contest

MODESTO – Lathrop downed host Downey 96-84 on Friday in consolation semifinal action of the Modesto City Classic.

C.J. Ward led the Spartans with 27 points followed by Walton with 20 points followed by C.J. Ward with 17, Javeen Butler 15, Julian Chavez 10 and Jaylen Bagby eight.

Lathrop plays for the consolation championship this afternoon.


East Union 79, Lincoln 76
Parm Khattra hit six 3-pointers and led the Lancers with 20 points in the semifinal loss.
Lydell King added 19 points behind three 3-pointers and Christian Cuevas had 10 points.
East Union will play Enochs of Modesto today at 7:30 p.m. for third place.

Stockton Children’s Classic
Sierra 48, Florin 47

STOCKTON – Kendrick Currey drew a foul with one second remaining in the game and sunk a free throw to propel the Timberwolves into the consolation championship game today against Inderkum of Sacramento at 4:30 p.m. at Edison High.
Currey led Sierra with 15 points. David Kakala added 10 points and Zach Curry and Isaiah Sanchez eight apiece.

Delta Kings Classic
Patterson 60, Ripon 48

The Tigers atoned for a loss earlier this week to the Indians at home.
“We struggled,” Ripon coach Justin Graham said. “We had problems with turnovers and 3-pointers.
“Patterson was solid – give them credit. They came out ready to play and were motivated after we beat them earlier in the week.”
Malik Taylor and Logan Gillespie scored 14 points each to pace the Indians.
Ripon will be looking for their first win of the tournament today at 2 p.m. against Buhach Colony.
