Manteca manhandles Ceres in season opener

Khalid Robinson and Alijah Cota combined for six touchdowns and nearly 300 rushing yards in a 60-6 Manteca High thumping of Central Valley of Ceres on Thursday in non-league junior varsity action at Guss Schmiedt Field.

Robinson (11 carries, 193 yards) ran for scores of 2 and 20 yards and pulled in touchdown passes of 11 and 25 yards from Jonathan Rosas of 15 and 25 yards, Rosas’ lone completions out of seven attempts. Cota (13 carries, 97 yards) scored on runs of 3 and 10 yards, Rosas scored on a run of 15 yards and Donovan Hall returned an interception 15 yards for a score.   

Zach Todd made four tackles for the Buffaloes and Hall had three.

 

East Union 22, Downey 6

Locked in a 6-6 halftime tie Friday, Johntae Maggard scored a pair of second-half touchdowns for the Lancers at Dino Cunial Field. 

Adam Tinnerello gave East Union a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. Maggard (seven carries, 70 yards) scored on runs of 5 and 47 yards and Marcus Brennan carried the ball 11 times for 70 yards. Luke Weaver 4 for 5 passing for 70 yards and had three carries for 29 yards.

 Tinnerello (interception) and Xavier Mendez made six tackles apiece for the Lancers. 

 Ripon 40, 

Weston Ranch 8

 Jack Manning scored three touchdowns for the Chiefs at Stouffer Field. 

 Manning (six carries, 71 yards; one reception, 33 yards) had touchdown runs of 5 and 6 yards and scampered 76 yards for a touchdown on a kickoff return. Andre Toledo added a 10-yard touchdown run. Daniel Espinoza scored from 2 yards out and Emiliano Acosta returned a fumble 2 yards for a score. Ethan Day gained 43 yards on five carries. 

 Daniel Espinoza Ripon with four tackles, Julian Reyes (punt block) added three and Dylan Lua pass deflection had two. Andre Toledo made an interception.
