OAKDALE – The Oakdale Mustangs took advantage of their home course, getting five solid rounds in less-than-favorable conditions during their 225-289 Valley Oak League win over the Manteca Buffaloes Friday at Oakdale Golf and Country Club.

Manteca (1-2) was only able to land one player in the 40’s, while Oakdale’s entire five shot under 50.

Nick Gonzales led the Buffaloes with a 44 and teammate Kenny Summers followed him with a 52. Casey Benson shot a 54, while Chris Pinpin and David Tolbert added a 69 and 70, respectively.

Oakdale was led by senior standout Austin Whitworth, who turned in a medalist honors with a round of 41 and freshman teammates Ian Stogdell and Danny Wong both shot 44’s.

“Nick Gonzales played well despite awful weather conditions,” Manteca head coach David Fontanilla said. “He did well keeping up with Oakdale’s two best players.”

The Buffaloes will be back on the course Monday when they play host to the Central Valley Hawks at Manteca Golf Course. Tee time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
