Three Buffaloes shut out their opponents, and Manteca wrapped up the first week of Valley Oak League action undefeated with its 9-0 drubbing of host Sierra at Manteca Regional Tennis Courts on Friday.
No. 2 singles player Si Hao, No. 4 Yok Whai Ma and No. 5 Joseph Poncini all won, 6-0, 6-0. Sierra (0-2) was more competitive in doubles matches, but the depth of the Buffs (2-0, 4-6 overall) proved to be too much.
“The guys came ready to play today against Sierra,” Manteca coach Frank Fontana said. “The key is to not overlook anybody.
“Having to sit and wait is a struggle and this is shown by the doubles results. You warm up and are ready to play, then you have to for an hour waiting for the a court. But in the end we took care of business.”
Sophomore Solman Aniss took care of business at No. 1 singles, dispatching Kyle Banks, 6-3, 6-0. No. 3 Yok Eyh Ma defeated Ryan Brook 6-1, 6-0, and No. 6 DeAngelo Caldera beat Fabian Barba, 6-2, 6-1.
Manteca’s top doubles pair of Dhillon Patel and Kevin Lin won 6-1, 6-0 against Kobe Salas and Lovedeep Bhopal. Jake Tolbert and Cameron Gonzales staved off George Montress and Ivan Tapia 6-2, 6-2 in the second doubles match. Robert Foo and Niko Plares took down Alejandro Botello and Jason Gill, 6-2, 6-2.
