LATHROP — Manteca rebounded well from a nonleague loss with Tuesday’s 9-0 drubbing of Lathrop.
The Buffaloes are now 2-0 in the Valley Oak League but were coming off Monday’s 5-4 defeat to Modesto Metro Conference contender Gregori.
“We played a solid match to defeat Lathrop,” Manteca coach Frank Fontana said. “We have solid play from our three doubles teams. We took care of business like we should have today. It is time to refocus to host Sierra tomorrow. We want to take one match at a time and continue to get better, match by match.
Manteca’s No. 1 (Dhillon Patel and Kurtis Ma) and 2 (Rey Anaya and Kevin Lin) doubles teams rolled to 6-0, 6-0 victories. The third tandem of Joseph Poncini and Cameron Gonzalez completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 win.
Freshman Solman Aniss took down Ben Hoang 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Kyle Thornburg (6-0, 6-0), Si Hao Tang (6-1, 6-0), Yok Eyh Ma (6-1, 6-1), Lenard Gutierrez (6-0, 6-0) and Matt Pabla (6-1, 6-0) were also victorious.
Kimball 9, East Union 0
Host East Union nearly salvaged a point in the No. 1 doubles match, where Hector Romero and Brandon Mitchell lost 6-4, 4-6 (2-7) to Chance Mizzuno and Omar Popal.
Andrew Rossette also played tough in the No. 3 singles match before dropping a 2-6, 4-6 decision to Ivan Acosta. It was otherwise a dominant effort for Kimball, which got 6-0, 6-0 victories from No. 1 and 2 singles Garrett Chun and Logan Lee.
