Manteca was able to slow down Jasmine Kelly in the second half, and the Buffaloes stampeded their way to a resounding 59-35 win over visiting Central Catholic on Tuesday.
Kelly accounted for 15 of the Raiders’ 20 first-half points but was held scoreless for the rest of the game. Manteca (2-1 Valley Oak League, 9-6 overall) led 31-20 at halftime, then exploded for 20 points in the third period to double the advantage.
“Jasmine Kelly was hot early, so we were keying in on her,” Manteca coach Ryan Bono said. “Other than that, we were holding them to one shot, rebounding well and had great ball movement on offense. We were able to get open shots against their 1-3-1 (defense).”
Jayda Jackson spearheaded the Buffs with 14 points, six rebounds and four assists. Rhiannon Genilla added eight points and seven boards. Kyaria Jacobs and Selena Lopez scored nine points each.
Hannah Heath contributed 10 points for Central Catholic (1-2, 9-6).
Kimball 77, Sierra 52
A 17-5 assault in the third quarter was the decisive blow administered by VOL co-leading Kimball (3-0, 11-3).
“There are certain games that based off the performance of your athletes, their heart and their hustle make games easier to lose,” Sierra coach Larissa Founts-Bergerson said. “Tonight was one of those nights.”
Raiann Prieto paced the Timberwolves (0-3, 7-9) with 18 points. Freshman Jordan Hayter made 10 of 11 free throws and finished with 17 points.
