ESCALON – Manteca’s Dominic Day took first place in the 132-pound B bracket and three East Union wrestlers brought home A-bracket silver medals Saturday in the Lloyd C. Engel Wrestling Tournament at Escalon High.
The tournament is a two-day event with Friday results determining Saturday seeding. Undefeated wrestlers on Friday were in Pool A on Saturday, one-loss wrestlers in Pool B and so on.
Day defeated East Union’s Joe Patton for the gold medal with a pin in 1 minute, 42 seconds.
Tyler Diaz (128), Trinidad Diaz (160) and Joe Luna (140) all made it to the A-bracket finals for the Lancers but came up short, finishing second. East Union’s Conner Galloway (172-B) finished second and Gabriel Herrera (197-C) first.
The Buffaloes’ Joshua Craighead (182-A) finished fourth as did teammate Armon Bayford (220-C). Dominik Neuharth (195-A) and Joseph Farrell (170-A) went undefeated on Friday but did not place.
