Manteca High suffered its second consecutive loss in as many days Wednesday when the Buffaloes fell to Gregori High 3-0 in non-league action.

The Buffaloes were only able to muster a fight in the second game, where they fought valiantly yet fell 25-17. Gregori didn’t have any trouble taking the two other sets, winning 25-6, 25-17 and 25-7.

“We were able to hang tough in that second game,” Manteca head coach Tim Horning said. “And we did that with good defense. Offensively, it is just to tough to match that type of speed.”

Gregori was a playoff qualifying club from a season ago with the nucleus of the club returning as juniors.

Lathrop 3, Gustine 2

On Tuesday, Lathrop was able to outlast a determined Gustine squad in a 12-25, 13-25, 25-9, 25-13 and 16-14 win.

“We started out slow,” head coach Diana Kimbrough said. “But we got our momentum going and pulled out a win.”

The Spartans got 10 digs apiece from Kim Duenas and Brendalyn Gamboa, while Callia Morales and Liz Brambia paced the club in kills with eight apiece.

Jamie Ready led Lathrop with 14 assists.

Lathrop will continue its nonleague schedule at 5 p.m. against Liberty Ranch.
