Manteca knocked off a reigning champion for the second time this week, blowing out San Joaquin Athletic Association co-titlist Chavez 25-10, 25-13, 25-13 Thursday at Winter Gym.

The Buffaloes are now 7-2 as they look to further build on their early-season momentum heading into their Valley Oak League opener against upstart Weston Ranch on Sept. 11. They have three nonleague matches on consecutive night next week, and two of the opponents — Los Banos (Western Athletic Conference) and Bear Creek (SJAA) are defending champions.

“We’ll see,” Manteca coach Kevin Bolding said. “We have a tough week coming up.”

He said every player got ample playing time in Manteca’s dominant effort Thursday. Setter Kaitlyn Morenzone led the way with 12 assists and 17 service points, five of which went for aces. Kacy Bolding added eight assists and five kills.

Rhiannon Genilla paced the balanced attack with eight kills. Payton Reis and Sarah Inderbitzin chipped in five kills each. Inderbitzin also served for 11 points.
