Manteca lost three competitive matches during the California Girls Tennis Classic this weekend in Fresno and Clovis but gained valuable experience heading into its Valley Oak League schedule.

The Buffaloes did not go away empty-handed, however, winning their finale.

Freshman phenom Haile Kim led the Buffaloes, dominating her three singles matches and winning once in doubles with Zoey Pratt. They were partnered up for the 4-2 win over Firebaugh, prevailing 6-2, 6-3 as the No. 1 pair.

Also in the Firebaugh match, Delailah Sanchez Torres and Saihaj Ghuman won at No. 2 doubles, while Rae Limbago and Ekam Ghumam took No. 3 doubles, 6-0, 6-0. Firebaugh forfeited at No. 3 singles.

Manteca was placed in Division 4 out of 8 and dropped its first two matches in tiebreakers Friday at Justin Garza High in Fresno. The opener against Central Valley Christian of Visalia was decided by sets won after the two teams split the six matches. CVC got the edge on sets, 8-6.

Kim won at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2, and Ghuman ground out a 6-2, 4-6, 17-15 victory at No. 2 singles. Ekam Ghuman and Limbago squeaked it out at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 6-7, 10-8.

The match with Canyon Hills was even tighter and went to the second tiebreaker — games won. They tied on matches 3-3, were even on sets 6-6 and Canyon Hills narrowly got the nod on games won, 46-45.

Manteca swept all three singles contests, with wins coming from Kim (6-0, 6-2), Shreya Ramen (6-1, 6-4) and Saihaj Ghuman (6-1, 6-4).

The Buffaloes played at Clovis East on Saturday and were downed by Santa Clarita-based Hart, 4-2.

Kim blanked Kate Martinez, 6-0, 6-0, while the No. 2 doubles team of Raman and Sanchez Torres took care of Frances Walsh and Miley Del Hoyo, 6-1, 6-2.

Manteca opens VOL play with two road matches this week, starting with Oakdale today.
