Two first-half goals were all the Manteca girls soccer team needed Friday, as the Buffaloes fended off visiting Modesto 2-0 in a nonleague contest at Guss Schmiedt Field.
A few of Manteca’s underclassmen shined in the dominant effort.
Freshman Ashleen Kahar put the Buffaloes (7-3) ahead for good with a goal set up by sophomore Kaitlynn Funsch. Later in the opening half, Alexa Mayen dished it to sophomore Kaley Miller to double the lead.
Goalkeeper Aimee Meier, another freshman, collected seven saves in the shutout. Manteca wraps up pre-league play at Gustine next Tuesday before heading to Oakdale to kick off the Valley Oak League schedule two days later.

Brittany Bloemhof gave them an early boost in Friday’s nonleague affair, scoring twice in the first 30 minutes. Ripon Christian led 2-0 at halftime. Alysia Templeman widened the margin in the second half with Paige Vos setting her up with a routine one-on-one opportunity. Bethany Silveira, who earlier assisted one of Bloemhof’s goals, capped scoring with a booming shot from beyond the 18-yard line.
Goalie Emma Cormier came up with three saves.
