Four-year tennis player Elizabeth Tolbert won her final Valley Oak League match on Manteca High’s courts Tuesday, and the Buffaloes wrapped up second place with an 8-1 victory over East Union on Tuesday.
Tolbert defeated Araceli Gonzalez in the No. 1 singles match. She is one of just four seniors playing for Manteca this year. Katie Inderbitzin, also a fourth-year starter, lost to Mandi Roberts 6-1, 5-7, 4-10 at No. 3 singles.
The rest of the singles contests weren’t close. No. 4 Taylor Corona and No. 6 Julia Tang shut out their opponents, 6-0, 6-0. Koryn Menasco topped Vanessa Hamilton 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 match, and Gladis Sandoval added a 6-0, 6-2 victory.
Rav Dhillon and Jessica Tang beat the East Union tandem of Patricia Tajii and Margarita Navarrete 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 1 doubles match. Freshmen Makenna Condit and Navina Mann were 6-4, 6-3 victors, while Julianne Eavenson and Ivy Benson triumphed, 6-4, 6-1.
Manteca (11-2 VOL, 12-2 overall) close the regular season Thursday at Lathrop.
Sierra 5, Weston Ranch 4
STOCKTON — With a singles player out sick, the Cougars dropped yet another well-contested match on Tuesday, winning the Nos. 3-6 singles contests.
Claire Banks of Sierra dominated 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 match, and No. 2 Simran Thind held off Mary Vang 7-6 (7-3), 6-4. Winning at doubles for Sierra were Maria Vazquez/Krista Harris (6-3, 6-2), Alyssa Patterson/Louisa Hunter (7-5, 6-3) and Vivianna Castro/Alejandra Pacheco (7-5, 7-5). Malu Belay and Sandra Chacon were Weston Ranch’s pair in the competitive third doubles match.
April Vang (7-5, 6-3), Aileen Velasquez (6-2, 6-0), Rubi Sanchez (6-1, 6-4) and Alyssa Ryan (6-3, 6-1) were winners for Weston Ranch.
