Buffs stay close to VOL leaders

The Manteca High Buffaloes are 9-2 in the Valley Oak League.

Their only losses were to first-place Central Catholic. On Thursday, the Manteca girls kept pace with the league-leaders by posting an 8-1 win against host Sierra at the Manteca Regional Tennis Center.

Claire Banks, who is the Timberwolves’ ace singles player, notched the only win for her squad, defeating the Buffaloes’ No. 1 Elizabeth Tolbert in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.

Simran Thind of Sierra battled it out with the Buffaloes’ No. 2 player Koryn Moreno, losing in three hard-fought sets, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 2-6.

Ditto that for Sierra’s No. 4 singles player Kat Malabanan, who lost to Taylor Corona in three sets, 2-6, 6-4, 2-6,

Katie Inderbitzin, Manteca’s No. 3 player, swept past Kelly Bacon, 6-1, 6-2.

Buffaloes’ Mia Perez defeated the Timberwolves’ No. 5 player Gladis Sandoval in similar fashion, 6-1, 6-2.

 Julia Tang of Manteca handled Carly Cunial, Sierra’s No. 6 player, in two sets,6-2, 6-2.

In doubles play, Rav Dhillon and Jessica Tang, the Buffaloes’ top duo, edged Maria Vasquez and Krista Harris, 6-4, 6-3.

The Manteca No. 3 team of Julianne Eavenson and Ivy Benson slipped past the Timberwolves’ Viviana Castro and Alejandra Pacheco, 6-4, 6-2.

Sierra will travel to Oakdale on Monday.

East Union, Oakdale canceled

The Lancers were scheduled to host Oakdale but that VOL match was canceled due to rain.

The match was rescheduled for Oct. 14.

Lathrop, C. Catholic rained out

The Spartans’ match against visiting Central Catholic was also postponed because of wet weather.

A reschedule is in the plans.
