The East Union High girls golf squad took care of cross-town rival Manteca High Tuesday at the Manteca Park Golf Course.

In doing so, the Lancers (12-1) maintained first-place in the Valley Oak League – Sonora is one game back while Oakdale is two back – while getting balanced all-around scoring on the front nine led by Angelique Cardoza and Jordan Vinson.

Both shot 9-over-par 46s to share medalist honors.

Jenny Ketner (47) finished a stroke back while Kailee Nuding (48) and Brittany Ugalino (50) rounded out the East Union scoring.

As a team, the Lancers shot 237.

The Manteca score and results were unavailable at press time.

In addition, senior Ashley Epericueta (55), who was playing in her first match of the season, had the Lancers’ throw-out score.

East Union will host Oakdale today.

For that, she was the medalist in a match that ended in near darkness.

Elia Vazquez and Briane Leconi both carded 53s while Melanie Kiesel had a 60.

For the Cougars, Jonelle Mungcal finished with a 48 and Sasha Strambler had a 50. Emily Medeiros (54), Rochelle Macatangay (62), and Aimee Venegas (63) rounded out the Weston Ranch scoring.

“I was proud of my girls,” said Cougars coach Miguel Torrente of his rebuilding program. “This was their best score of the year.”
