Carillo leads local pack at State

Preps careers were launched and completed at the finish line of the CIF State Cross Country Championships in Fresno on Saturday.

Weston Ranch sophomore Iris Carillo finished 26th in the Division III race with a time of 18 minutes, 58 seconds, completing a season that saw her win Valley Oak League and Sac-Joaquin Sub-Section titles.

While Carillo appears destined to return to state, Haley Silva bid farewell to the state championship.

The Sierra standout and future University of the Pacific harrier improved her position by 45 spots in her second appearance, closing her prep career in 75th place in the D-III race. She finished Woodward Park’s 5-kilometer course in 19:50.

Ripon’s Ellie Waters crossed the line in 69th place at 20:22 during the Division IV race, while the Ripon Christian girls were 23rd in the Division V team standings.

Freshman Alysia Templeman paced the Knights with a finish of 22:59. She was one of four runners to clock a sub-25-minute finish for Ripon Christian. She was joined by senior Courtney Bloemhof (24:05), senior Kayla Gerdes (24:07) and freshman Brittany Bloemhof (24:32).

Freshman Heidi Tazalaar (25:32) and junior Miranda Ayala (26:08) rounded out Ripon Christian’s participants.
