Ching homers again as Buffs blast Lathrop

LATHROP — Manteca kept the hits coming Thursday in an 18-0 five-inning shelling of Lathrop.

The Buffaloes (5-3 Valley Oak League, 12-5 overall) have racked up 36 hits in three games so far in their busy week, which ends Saturday with two nonleague home contests with Gregori and Patterson at noon and 2 p.m., respectively.

Kayla Ching hammered a homer for a second straight game, finishing 2 for 4 with a double, five RBIs and four runs scored.

Koryn Menasco went 3 for 3 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs. She also started in the pitcher’s circle, giving up a hit and striking out one in two innings. Alyssah Harnden finished the job and struck out two in three innings.

Rhiannon Genilla (two doubles, two RBIs) and Vanessa Lopez (three runs, three RBIs) each went 2 for 3, as the Buffaloes totaled 17 knocks. They got rolling with seven runs in the first, five in the second and three in each of the third and fourth innings. 

Karina Lopez clubbed a double for the Spartans (0-8, 1-16). Joselyn Hurtadom, Isabel Terra, Samantha Sales and Ashley Del Barrio added one hit apiece.

STOCKTON — The Lancers (4-2, 11-4) erupted for eight runs in the first before cruising to the mercy-shortened win.

Izabella Owen went 3 for 3 with three runs and three steals. The reigning league MVP even got to pitch two innings, striking out five of the eight batters she faced. Winning pitcher Hayley Leonard struck out four in the combined three-hitter.

Ally Roberts contributed two hits, including a double, and two runs in the blowout. Allie Parker and Mackenzie Salgado each added a RBI double.
