Weston Ranch suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday against an undefeated team.

On Tuesday, the Cougars narrowly escaped with a bounce-back win at winless Edison. Sal Molina netted the game-winner in stoppage time as Weston Ranch prevailed, 2-1. The deciding score came off a corner-kick sequence in which the Edison goalkeeper deflected the ball to the opportunistic Molina.

Weston Ranch (7-1-1) was coming off a hard-fought 2-1 defeat to Valley Oak League rival Manteca in the championship round of the Buffalo Cup. Manteca is currently 7-0 with two nonleague contests remaining.

Edison (0-6) is a better team than its record reflects and has played tough schedule thus far. The Vikings battled Weston Ranch to scoreless halftime draw before Jojo Mayorca broke the ice for the Cougars.  The goal is the ninth on the season for Mayorca, and Esteban Paramo provided the assist.

The Cougars cap their nonleague schedule on Thursday against visiting Bear Creek.
