Cougars hang on with key doubles victory

Weston Ranch and Sierra were tied at four apiece during Thursday’s Valley Oak League matchup in Manteca.

Weston Ranch’s No. 2 doubles tandem of Kim Valladeres and Jasmeen Sendhi earned a 6-0, 6-4 victory, which propelled the Cougars to a 5-4 win after suffering a close loss to Kimball earlier in the week.

Sierra’s Mia Perez and Shelby Jarmon came back to tie the second set at 4-4, but Valladeres and Sendhi closed it by scoring the next two points.

Weston Ranch’s No. 1 singles player Donika Ramos won her match 7-5, 6-1, while Preet Kaur and Yesenia Reynoso picked up the Cougars’ other two singles victories.

Brittany Olitan and Jennifer Contreras earned the other doubles point for Weston Ranch (3-1), who will host Sonora on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

Sierra will be in action on the road against Oakdale on Tuesday.



Oakdale 8, Lathrop 1


Lathrop’s No. 4 singles player Danielle Osoteo picked up the Spartans’ only point.

Osoteo knocked off Danielle Conway 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) in a tiebreaker. Jenna Magaoay lost in three sets (7-5, 3-6, 3-6), but the rest of Lathrop’s lineup was swept in two straight.

The Spartans will visit Manteca on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.



Manteca 8, East Union 1

East Union’s No. 1 singles player Brooke Niendorf earned the Lancers’ only victory during a VOL loss against Manteca.

Niendorf earned a 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 (tiebreaker) over Manteca’s Liz Dias. Sealy McAdams of Manteca earned a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 victory in singles play, as did Lizzie Tolbert, Julia Saling, Fechi Nkwocha and Allison Rachels.

Manteca’s Ashlee Miller and Katie Inderbitzen defeated EU’s Alexis Phillips and Mandi Roberts 6-0, 4-6, 6-2. Manteca’s No. 2 and 3 doubles teams earned victories in straight sets as well.

East Union will play against Kimball on Tuesday in Tracy at 3:30 p.m., while Manteca will host Lathrop.
