Cougars Hill takes first in girls 106 class

MODESTO – Weston Ranch’s Mia Hill went 4-0 Saturday to win her 106-pound pool Saturday in the Lady Eagles Invitational at Enochs High School.

 “Today was all right,” Hill said. “But I didn’t wrestle the girls I wanted to.

 “I will probably see them at regionals.”\Wonderful Delange (235) finished second and Emmelene Garcillas (116), Tranisha Enclauda (150) and Samantha Ramirez (235) finishing third.

“The girls are really starting to turn the corner and are working hard,” Cougars coach Seth Davis said. “And it’s showing on the mat.”

Ashley O’Hare (150) and Stephanie Rosillo (160) placed third for Lathrop.  In the junior varsity boys tournament Octavio Ruelas (160) and Isaac Blaze (190) both finished second.

“All of Lathrop’s young men and women wrestled with their hearts today,” Spartans coach Dean Atkins said.

Ripon’s Victoria White (150) went 5-0 with four first-round pins and an early second-round pin to win first place in her pool. Teammate Mireya Garcia (170) finished fourth.

Jordan Campa (106) and Brandon Barnett (120) finished second for the Indians in the boys junior varsity tournament.  Diego Moreno (152), Alexis Rodriguez (170) and Akashdeep Bathh (195) finished third and Andy Yciano (160) was fourth.

“We were a young group, but we wrestled hard,” Ripon coach Darrel White said. We were impressed with their determination.”
