Weston Ranch High’s boys basketball team whipped the defending Sac-Joaquin Section Division V champion, Victory Christian of Carmichael, 75-54 Friday in the semifinal round of the Bradshaw Christian Holiday Jamboree in Sacramento.

Valley Christian (6-1) of Roseville is up next for Weston Ranch today at 4:45 p.m. in the finals.

The Cougars (2-0), who edged the tournament host 68-64 in the opener Thursday, got 22 points and eight rebounds from 6-foot-4 wing forward Andre Beard while getting a big boost from their bench during a 25-9 second-quarter run.

Coach Ryan Bono lauded the defensive efforts of Camron Turner and Marlon Aumentado in the second quarter, which helped Weston Ranch take a 39-21 lead into halftime.

“I was not happy with our defensive effort at the end of the first quarter,” Bono said. “Our bench came in and gave us a really good spark and showed some intensity.”

Sophomore Dylan Alexander contributed 18 points and nine boards, senior guard Melvin Allen chipped in 13 points and sophomore guard Zerrion Payton added 10.

Robbie Maxey had 21 points for Victory Christian.

In Livermore, Ripon (1-2) trailed 42-15 at the half as its early-season struggles continued. Connor Jones led the team with 18 points, while Jake McCreath turned in a dozen.

“We had too many mental, physical and emotional mistakes on the court tonight,” Ripon head coach Rod Wright said. “Tomorrow I am looking to see how we respond to adversity and how we come out and play after a couple of tough losses.”

The Indians will be back on the court at 2:30 p.m. in a consolation contest against Skyline High.
