Manteca’s girls tennis team won some hard-earned sets to notch what ended up being an 8-1 landslide over host Weston Ranch on Tuesday.
The Cougars claimed their only team point at No. 3 doubles, as Deepa Singh and Sandra Chacon staved off Julianne Eavenson and Monica Lozano 6-7, 10-8, 10-8.
Manteca captured other three-set wins at No. 3 singles, No. 6 singles and No. 2 doubles. Katie Inderbitzin topped April Vang 7-5, 2-6, 6-2; and Jessica Tang came back to defeat Rubi Sanchez 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. The doubles match was won by Navina Mann and Ivy Benson, who edged Rashmeet Toger and Alyssa Ryan 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (10-8). Rav Dhillon and Makenna Condit teamed up to win the No. 1 match.
Elizabeth Tolbert beat Jaskirat Kaur 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 1 singles match. Koryn Menasco (6-2, 6-1), Gladis Sandoval (6-3, 7-5) and Julia Tang (6-0, 6-2) also won in straight sets.
East Union 7, Lathrop 2
The Lancers routed visiting Lathrop behind Araceli Gonzalez’s 6-0, 6-0 shutout in the No. 1 singles contest.
Mandi Roberts (6-2, 6-1), Fabiola Magana (6-1, 6-4) and Natalie Karim (6-4, 6-3) also picked up points for the team. Deja Andrades grinded out a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Vanessa Hamilton, and Eden Baca got past Angelica Ortiz 6-3, 6-2 for Lathrop’s only wins.
It was all East Union in doubles action, with Patricia Tajii/Margarita Navarette (6-1, 6-0), Marilyn Civil/Cynthia Civil (6-1, 6-4) and Kara Bender/Mandi Neberg (6-0, 6-3) sweeping.
Cougars make Buffs earn blowout
