East Union’s girls golf team appears to be peaking going into its big match with Valley Oak League-leading Oakdale.

Led by Natalie Cowan’s season-best 2-over-par 39, the Lancers beat Sierra handily, 232-320 Wednesday at Manteca Park Golf Course. Cowan had a chance to finish even lower at the end but missed a 3-foot putt on hole 9.

“She’s working really hard at it and improving,” East Union coach Dennis Wells said. “The way she’s been playing of late, she’s had the potential to shoot like that.”

East Union improved to 7-1 in league. Kendra Campbell turned in a solid runner-up 43 score. Hayley Leonard and Kennedy Goodnough each carded a 49, and Presley Graham added a 52.

Sierra (2-6) was paced by Bryanna Gavino’s 49. Haileee Looney followed with a 56, Hallie Trczinski a 61, Andie Gonzales a 75 and Kailee Lencioni a 79.

East Union hosts Oakdale next Tuesday, while Sierra heads to Dryden Creek to face Central Catholic.
