CROSS COUNTRY: Sierra’s Anna Dittman takes 3rd in Division III SJS sub-section meet

 Sierra sophomore Anna Dittman placed third in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III sub-section race Saturday to lead all local harriers competing at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds.

The top 10 teams and 10 individuals not part of qualifying teams advance to the section final set for this Saturday at Willow Hills Reservoir Community Park in Folsom.

Dittman helped Sierra’s varsity girls make it as team, finishing in 19 minutes, 7.07 seconds. Monse Saavedra (33rd place), Alyssa Rodriguez (61st), Abigail Fraser (62nd) and Iris Rodriguez (63rd) also scored for the Timberwolves.

Qualifying for the section meet as individuals out of the Division III girls field are Lathrop Jacquelyn Pena Santillan (43rd), Mackenzie Collins (50th) and Morgan Emery (53rd), along with Alysia Sinclair 52nd) of East Union.

Sierra senior Christian Gonzalez is pacing his way toward another appearance in the state meet. The Valley Oak League individual champion took fifth in Division III, clocking in at 16:07.5. The T’wolves’ boys team also qualified for the final, with Max Perez (42nd), Olivier Roman (62nd), Mateo Cervantez (69th) and Caleb Narayan (91st) contributing to the score.

Ripon Christian’s girls came in third in Division V and were led by freshman Kaylee Baker (23rd, 23:56.2). Joining her at the section meet will be Natalie Beenes (30th), Elizabeth Rich (32nd), Tessa Schoolland (37th) and Charlotte Graef (40th).

Other varsity runners headed to Folsom: Ripon’s Moses Gomez (Division IV boys, 29th), Ripon’s Sophia Jung (Division IV girls, 25th), Ripon Christian’s Matijs Zylstra (Division V boys, 31st) and Carter Van Groningen (Division V boys, 39th).

East Union’s Elijah Galvan highlighted area competitors in the lower levels with his runner-up finish (12:17.7) in Division III freshman boys. Sierra’s Collin Curzon took seventh in the same race.
