Devin Fitzpatrick was the individual varsity boys winner in the Trans-Valley League cross country opener Wednesday at River Bluff Regional Park in Ceres.
The senior clocked time of 17 minutes, 31.87 seconds, holding off the Livingston tandem of Cristian Lucatero (17:39.73) and Moises Cortes Garcia (17:52.69). Livingston got the edge in team scoring, however, tallying 61 points against 67 for both Ripon and Escalon.
Ripon’s defending champion varsity girls came in fourth in a highly competitive race. Hughson led the way with 57 points and was followed by Escalon (62), Hilmar (68), Ripon (73) and Riverbank (81).
Jenna Skavdahl paced the Indians with a time of 22:37.47. Ripon’s Mallory Govia took 10th in 23:52.68. Riverbank sophomore Giselle Fernandez was the girls winner in 20:43.54.

The Indians (15-2) was sharp in its tune-up ahead of a big TVL showdown. The reigning Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV champions took care of Turlock (10-5), 25-12, 25-20, 25-16.
Adriana Dorn led the charge with 14 kills, three blocks and two aces. Reagan Wilkerson had 19 assists, eight digs and two aces. Kaya Whitaker added 12 assists. Kailee Inderbitzin contributed nine kills, two blocks and five digs. Amelia Lara paced the back row with 13 digs.
Ripon next travels to defending TVL and SJS Division III champ Escalon on Monday.

Ripon’s boys was led by Miguel Acosta-Pearson and his first-place time of 12:58.40. James Wilkins also finished in the top 10 (eighth, 13:28.15).
The girls team was narrowly outscored by Hilmar, 32-38. Leila Sanchez took fourth in 16:05.59. Emilie Benavides (16:51.98) and Celeste Nunez (17:04.30) came in eighth and ninth, respectively.
