Dorlands tiebreaking 45 proves to be difference for EU

Clayton Dorland may be the No. 6 player for the East Union High Lancers.

But his score at Wednesday’s Valley Oak League clash against Oakdale proved to be the difference.

Deadlocked 212-212, Dorland’s 45 for nine holes at Manteca Park Golf Course loomed big, keeping East Union unbeaten for the early season.

“Oakdale is a good team, we’re a good team – we both made our share of mistakes,” said Lancers coach Dennis Wells, who noted that results of the No. 6 player are usually a throw-away score for the exception of a tie.

East Union (4-0 VOL) saw its No. 1 player Trevor Baum recover from two out-of-bound penalties early on to post a 42.

Greg Willoff, who earned medalist honor, fired an even-par 37 for Oakdale (2-2 VOL).

The Lancers, instead, received steady scores from the likes of Mike Lozano, who led the way with a 40, Manuel Telles (42), Ryan Lee (44) and Ezra Lendhardt (44).
