The Manteca High boys tennis team whipped Weston Ranch on Wednesday, priming itself for today’s crosstown dual with East Union.

Anchored by the play of their doubles teams,  the Buffaloes won their 15th match of the season with a 9-0 victory over the Cougars.

Manteca is now 12-0 in Valley Oak League play and 15-2 overall, but get this: head coach Frank Fontana believes his team is still searching for a complete performance.

“We’re still waiting for that one match when everyone plays well on the same day,” he said.

Manteca got no complaints from Weston ranch, which managed to win only one set in nine matches.

The afternoon was carried by the Buffaloes’ doubles teams.

No. 1 Yok-Eyh Ma and Si Hao Tang dispatched their opponent, 6-0, 6-1. Those scores were matched by second-ranked Edvin Pepic and Dhillon Patel.

Manteca’s No. 3 duo, Leonard Gutierrez and Matt Pabla, one-upped their teammates, sweeping to a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

“Doubles really dominated today,” Fontana said, “taking control of each match from the very beginning.”

Manteca won five of the six singles matches in straight sets.

Michael Lopez and Gino Mercado shut out their opponents, while reigning All-Area Boys Tennis Player of the Year Yok-Jing Ma won 6-0, 6-2.

The Cougars’ only resistance came in the No. 4 match, Michael Cervantes versus Nolan Osborn of Manteca. Cervantes won the opening set 6-4, but couldn’t hold on. Osborn rallied to win in three, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Kyle Thornburg and Spencer Jackson rounded Manteca’s scoring. Thornburg won 6-1, 6-1, while Jackson triumphed, 6-2, 6-3.
