East Union falls to Bear Creek via tiebreaker

East Union High’s wrestling team nearly came away with two victories in a non-league double dual hosted by St. Mary’s of Stockton on Wednesday.

The Lancers tied Bear Creek 36-36 but lost via tiebreaker before dispatching the host Rams, 48-15.

Peter Barrington and Nick McGill each had two pins on the night.

At 132 pounds, Barrington stopped Bear Creek’s Donovan Dippel in 3 minutes, 7 seconds and finished off Christopher Clark in 31 seconds. The 170-pound McGill pinned his Bear Creek opponent in 4:49 and St. Mary’s Esteban Gallardo in 1:42.

Tevyn Braiden (145) also went 2-0, first outpointing Bear Creek’s Simeon Galano 11-6 before pinning Daniel Chicchon in 3:45.

Bobby Guillory flattened Raymond Rivera with 18 seconds remaining in their match and claimed the 120-pound match against St. Mary’s via forfeiture. St. Mary’s forfeited four other matches.

Other Lancers picking up wins against Bear Creek were Steven Jessup (4-2 decision) at 152, Richard Whitescarver (43-second pin) at 195 and Josh Byrd (46-second pin) at heavyweight.

East Union’s junior varsity squad won both of its contests, coasting past Bear Creek 42-19 while beating St. Mary’s, 60-24.
