TRACY – East Union rolled to a five-inning 19-3 five-inning win over West Valley of Cottonwood on Saturday in the Tracy High Tournament at Monte Vista Middle School on Saturday.

The Lancers (4-2) wasted little time setting the tone, scoring 10 runs in the first and following that up with eight runs in the second and totaled their 19 runs on 18 hits. The Eagles (1-4) scored three in the first and totaled five hits. 

Tyler Slaughter got the started on the mound for East Union and picked up the win. He gave up five hits – four in the first with three earned runs – but settled down and allowed only one more hit in the second. Jake Sousa came on in relief in the fifth and struck out two with no walks. Slaughter finished with a strikeout and two walks.

The Lancers defense had three errors but turned two double plays to get out of bases loaded situations. A 5-2-3 from Gyse Hulsebosch to Brayden Hardcastle to Scott Morenzone ended the second and a 6-4-3 from Daniel Marquez to Jacob Garcia to Scott Morenzone.

Marquez led the Lancers onslaught, going 4 for 5, double, three runs and an RBI. Mason James (3 for 4, three runs, three RBI), Hulsebosch (2 for 3, RBI), Hardcastle (2 for 2, two doubles, four RBI), Morenzone (2 for 2, two RBI), Jake Harries (2 for 2, two RBI) and Jake Sousa (three runs) rounded out the East Union attack.

The Lancers had eight hits in the first inning including the first four batters of the frame – Marquez, James, Hulsebosch, Hardcastle.  Hardcastle had the big hit of the inning with a two-RBI double.

Sierra 6

MODESTO – In addition to taking advantage of eight free passes by Timberwolves pitchers, the Jaguars (4-2) broke open a 3-3 tie in the fifth on Saturday with four consecutive hits, two of which were doubles.

Chase Sperbeck was 3 for 4 for Sierra (4-2). Jacob Peterson was 2 for 4 with a double and Jaden Pina doubled.

Haighley Kissee pitched five innings of shutout ball for the Buffaloes (6-3) Saturday, striking out two and allowing just two hits. 

Manteca rapped out 11 hits and was led by Sierra Martinez who was 3 for 3 with four RBI. Vanessa Lopez (2 for 2, two runs) Kaylee MacDannald (2 for 2, two RBIm three runs), Koryn Menasco (2 for 2, run) and Tawny Deernick (home run, three RBI) rounded out the Buffaloes attack.

 “This was a great team win to end a week of five games,” Manteca coach Josh Farris said.  “Especially in front of a good Saturday afternoon crowd.

“There is no mistaking that we had a bad loss Friday, but to end the week winning four of five is something positive that we are all proud of. We have two more tough preseason games upcoming this week and we want to continue to move in the right direction as league approaches.”

WATERFORD – Samantha Large doubled and tripled for the Timberwolves, scoring both Sierra runs and Lisette Mejias was 2 for 3.

Turlock 11, Sierra 3

The Timberwolves took a 2-0 lead before the Bulldogs took over.

Legacy Barnes was 2 for 3 for Sierra.

Champions of the Rainbow Kick-Off Tournament

East Union 4, Atwater 1

MODESTO – Alexis Erich was 3 for 4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs for the Lancers (7-0) in the championship game on Saturday at Rainbow Fields. 

Kristina Mojica was 3 for 4 and Mikayla Bongi went the distance for the Lancers in the circle, striking out seven and allowing six hits. 

East Union 6,

Beyer-Modesto 0

Delaney Pamplin hurled a five-hit shutout for the Lancers on Saturday, striking out 13. 

Danyelle Godoy (two runs) and Danielle Ramos (double) were each 2 for 3 for East Union.

East Union 9,

Gregori-Modesto 1

Bongi tallied 16 strikeouts while allowing just four hits on Thursday.

Erich was 4 for 4 with four RBI while Krisina Mojica, Allie Tajii, and Shelby Cefalu were all 2 for 4.

East Union 7, Los Banos 0

Pamplin started the tournament Thursday with a two-hit shutout, striking out 10.

Godoy (double, run) and Allie Tajii (double, two runs) were each 2 for 3.

Sophomore

Manteca 4, West 3

The host Buffaloes scored three in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game Saturday to set the table for Alyssah Harnden who laced a full count offering over the right-field fence to give Manteca the walk-off win. 

The Buffaloes got those three seventh-inning runs on a single by Mikayla Lopez, a walk by Adriana Churich and a two-RBI double by Kylee Eberle who then scored on a fielding error to tie the score at 3. 

Harnden went the distance in the circle, striking out 13.

Tracy 9, East Union 5

The Lancers took second place Saturday, losing to the Bulldogs in the championship game. 

A balanced hitting attack and stellar pitching by Kaitlyn Leal and Alexis Avalos helped the Lancers get to the championship game.

Golden Valley Tournament

East Union battled in the AA pool and finished eighth out of 16 teams, beating Livingston and Atwater with the win against Livingston avenging an earlier loss in the tournament.

“All in all it was a good weekend and eye opening for the guys,” Lancers coach Courtney Cozment said. “We saw some intense competition.
