East Union outlasts late Kimball surge

The East Union Lancers walked into the locker room protecting a one-point lead, and it took everything in their power not to let that lead slip away in a 62-60 Valley Oak League win over the Kimball Jaguars Wednesday.

“Kimball never gave up in that game,” East Union head coach Brett Lewis said.

The Lancers got a superb effort from senior Teejay Gordon who poured in 24 points including five 3-pointers. Jordon Kron added 13 and the Lancer bench provided the depth to pull out the victory.

East Union (2-1 VOL, 8-6 overall) will try and run it to back-to-back victories when they host the Oakdale Mustangs in a homecoming matchup Friday.

Weston Ranch 47, Sonora 44

The Cougars cleared a major hurdle when they squeaked past the Sonora Wildcats in the two programs’ first VOL meeting.

Weston Ranch (3-0, 12-2) will meet up with the Lathrop Spartans Friday, followed by hosting the Kimball Jaguars before a huge league matchup with the Sierra Timberwolves.

Dylan Alexander led Weston Ranch with 19 points, while Sonora got 18 from its leading scorer Alex Kiriluk.

Sierra 58, Oakdale 48

The Timberwolves cruised to a double-digit win behind a 21-point effort from Will Ward.

Sierra came away from Oakdale unscathed, keeping their VOL record perfect through the first three games of the season.

Sierra will be back on the court Friday when they play host to the Kimball Jaguars. The Timberwolves will then meet up with Lathrop Wednesday before a VOL showdown with Weston Ranch the following Friday.
