Drew Allen made a big statement Tuesday but did so in a losing effort by his Sierra High boys golf team.

Defending Valley Oak League champion East Union overcame Allen’s impressive 36 on the par-37 front nine of Manteca Park Golf Course, winning 218-235 behind superior depth.

It was a match that featured some of the city’s best golfers.

East Union’s Will Brink was the runner-up with a 39. He carded an eye-catching 34 at the same course last Wednesday against conference-leading Oakdale, which won that contest, 206-209.

Placing third Tuesday was Jordan Duval with a 41 for East Union (5-1). Evan Lewis and Sierra’s Ryan Leasure each turned in a 43.

Zach Couch and Jordan Lund added a 47 and 48, respectively, to East Union’s score. Making up the rest of the Timberwolves’ score were Kasey Milam (48), Alex Orr (50) and Blake Settlemoir (58). Sierra fell to 2-2 in league, 4-2 overall.

East Union closes the first half of league play with a big match at Sonora Thursday, while Sierra hosts Kimball of Tracy.

Trans Valley League
Ripon 236, Hughson 244

One day after winning the TVL Midseason Tournament, the Indians (4-1, 7-1) had trouble in dispatching Hughson Tuesday at Spring Creek Country Club.

Andrew Bonner did his usual damage for Ripon, earning medalist honors with an even-par 36. He was followed by Jordan Williamson’s 44, Zach Capel’s 48, Jason Williamson’s 50 and Jack Brierly’s 58.

Michael Hill finished second overall, leading Hughson with a 42. Dylan Delhart, coming off a second-place effort in the league tournament, scored a 48.

“We got away with one,” Ripon coach Chris Musseman said. “If we play like that again against Modesto Christian or Escalon we’re going to lose.”
Ripon will be tested at the challenging Stevinson Ranch Golf Club Thursday against Hilmar.

Southern League
Ripon Christian 189, Gustine 250

The Knights dominated behind Tim Hoeksema’s 1-over 32 at Jack Tone Golf Course.

Logan Vos was second by a single stroke, and Brandon Dotinga took third with a 48. Christian Manes and Danny Vos posted a 43 for a three-way tie for fourth with Gustine’s Frank Andrade.
