Jillian Goulart took to the pitcher’s circle in hopes of guiding the East Union Lancers to a victory on senior night, and Goulart was not disappointed, tossing a complete-game one-hitter in a 10-0 win over Weston Ranch Tuesday in Valley Oak League play.

Goulart surrendered one walk while striking out seven for the win. Goulart also handled her responsibilities as the catalyst of the Lancer offense, going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Fellow seniors Brittany LaMar and Cassie Waggy also had a couple of hits apiece.

“It was unbelievable,” Lancer head coach Brian Goulart said about senior night. “Not only for Jillian, but those other girls are like my daughters, too. I have been hauling those girls around to softball tournaments for five years. It was an awesome run.

“Our coaching staff got very choked up; it was the first time all year I had to put on my sunglasses.”

Freshman Jordan Vinson tried to assure her departing teammates the program was in good hands, leading the club with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with three RBI. Sophomore Gianna Gesler scored twice, stole two bases and hit a triple for the Lancers.

Jillian’s performance in the circle has been a consistent for the senior all season, improving to 4-0 on the season while giving East Union quality innings on short notice.

“She throws down,” coach Goulart said. “Everything she throws is down, down, and down. Even their third base coach was saying she’s tough; we hit in the ground and you guys field everything.

“Now we’ve got a chance to finish on a little winning streak; we’ve won four in a row.”

The Lancers will travel to Weston Ranch to take on the Cougars Thursday, followed by a trip to Lathrop for a VOL matchup against the Spartans Friday.
