Enochs munches on EU tourney prize

For the second time in as many years the Enochs High soccer program was able to earn the championship voucher for free food at In-N-Out burger after winning the three-school East Union round robin tournament with Enochs, Pitman and the Lancers. Teams competed against each other on both the varsity and junior varsity levels.

Enochs took the tournament title last year on its way to a quarter final finish in the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs. Enochs had no trouble making it two straight, beating East Union 1-0 on varsity and 2-0 in junior varsity. The Lancers got back on track with a 4-1 win on both levels against Pitman, before Pitman fell to Enochs on both fronts, securing the title for Enochs.

“Enochs is a disciplined, aggressive, hungry team that functioned as a machine,” Lancers head coach Jim Todd said. “I felt they were beatable and would have been if we had played our second-half tempo in the first half.

“Look for them to do well in their league again.”

The Lancers will look to get the Valley Oak League season underway on a high note when they travel to Lathrop to take on the Spartans to kickoff the VOL schedule at 4 p.m. The Lancers will then play host to the defending SJS Division-IV champion Sierra High Friday.
