Escalon scored five runs in the first two innings Saturday and went on to defeat East Union 7-2 in non-league baseball action at Agostini Field.

The Cougars (2-0) were the beneficiaries of four errors by the Lancers (0-1).

“We need to do a better job of taking care of the baseball,” East Union coach Dan Triglia said. “We had too many errors.

“We need to throw more strikes.”

Devin Abrew was 2 for 4 with a double for the Lancers and Jake Graves doubled and had an RBI.

Sonora 7, Lathrop 1

The Wildcats took advantage of five Spartans errors and scored three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings.

David Gonzalez had a double for the Spartans.

“Our pitchers pitched to contact and pounded the zone,” Lathrop coach Randy Baltazar said. “But we can’t give teams extra outs and allow them to take advantage of our mistakes.”
