Escalon tops reigning TVL champ Ripon

ESCALON — Reigning champion Ripon was upended by rival Escalon in its Trans-Valley League opener Thursday, 17-25, 20-25, 25-22, 19-25.

Makayla Buie amassed seven kills and 21 digs to lead the Indians (0-1, 2-7 overall). Alyssa Barrios accounted for five of Ripon’s eight blocks and added five kills. Mia Van Lewen chipped in seven kills, three digs and two aces.

Deven Stokes paced the back row with 30 digs. Setters Rachel Sausedo and Shannon Johnson handed out 11 and 13 assists, respectively.

Ripon will look to rebound against visiting Modesto Christian next Tuesday

Le Grand 3,

Ripon Christian 1

LE GRAND — Ripon Christian fell to 1-1 in league play after falling to Le Grand in a see-saw battle, 26-24, 24-26, 22-25, 19-25 on Wednesday.

Paige Vos did what she could, racking up 23 kills and five digs. Mackenzie Miller contributed with six kills and two solo blocks. Bethany Silveira picked up 23 digs, and Taylor Alger accumulated 38 assists.

Ripon Christian 0

STOCKTON — The Knights (2-6) were swept by the Tri-City Athletic League power house 14-25, 14-25, 12-25 on Thursday.

Vos turned in 10 kills and a block, Silveria had nine digs, Lauren Braga chipped in seven digs and five aces and Alger distributed 12 assists.

STOCKTON — The host Cougars (7-3) held off a late threat to end it in three, 25-18, 25-11, 25-23.

Amaya Finley led the way with 10 kills and six aces. Judit Zamora added five kills, while middle Senecia Patten had four to go with seven blocks. Nayeli Moreno set 21 assists.
