RIPON — Quality nearly trumped quantity in the boys portion of the East Union-Ripon Valley Oak League dual meet at Ervin Zador Aquatic Center on Tuesday.
The visiting Lancers ended up squeaking out an 85-82 victory despite not winning a race, as Ripon had just six male swimmers compete. It was business as usual for Ripon’s girls, who won handily, 116-52.
Noah Esenwein turned in a Sac-Joaquin Section qualifying time of 2 minutes, 4.23 seconds in winning to the 200-yard individual medley for Ripon’s boys team. Daniel Esenwein (200 free, 100 back), Kole Gonzales (50 free, 100 free) and Ty Wells (100 fly, 100 breast) each won two individual events. Diego Moreno placed first in the 500 freestyle.
The Lady Indians produced three section-qualifying efforts: Mallory Brubaker in the 100 free (58.51), Chloe Winter in the 100 butterfly (1:06.31) and Hannah Sweet in the 500 free (5:32.01). Brubaker (200 free) and Sweet (100 breast) were also double winners for the day. Elizabeth Wenner (50 free, 100 back) and Andria Martin (200 IM) contributed first-place points as well.
Ripon won all six relay races.
