EU eases past the Ranch

East Union’s standout sophomore Brooke Riley continued to play like one of the Valley Oak League’s elite on Thursday afternoon.

Riley shot a 1-under 35 at the Van Buskirk Golf Course and helped EU to a 225-341 victory over Weston Ranch.

Jordan Vinson shot a 44 for the Lancers, who improved to 7-0 in the VOL. Breanna Perkins (46), Brittany Ugalino (47) and Rebeca Leonard (53) helped round out the total as well.

Taler Mar led her Cougars with a personal-best 60.

East Union will host Kimball Tracy on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., while Weston Ranch will travel to Sonora.



Sierra 279, Lathrop DQ


A 50 from Lexus Barnes helped her Timberwolves improve to 3-2 in VOL play following a victory over Lathrop at the Manteca Park Golf Course.

McKenna Doyle carded a 53 and Vanessa Rodriguez a 56.

Legacy Barnes (59) and Kayla Wilson (61) rounded up Sierra’s total. The T’Wolves will play against Lathrop at home on Tuesday, again.

Lathrop’s Kristina Garcia shot a 66. Kaitlynn Davis (82) and Vanessa Vega (83) were the Spartans’ other two contributors.



Modesto Chr. 192, Ripon Chr. 216


Ripon Christian dropped to 0-2 in the Valley Foothill League north division following a 24-stroke loss against Modesto Christian at the Jack Tone Golf Course.

RC’s Kaitlyn Groshong was low medalist with a 42 on the par-31, front nine. Lauren Van Till shot a 54, and Rachel Struiksma (60), Caroline Strong (65) and Pamela Radach (60) rounded out the Knights total.

Ali Stakes led MC (1-0) with a 44, followed by Alex Wagner’s 46.



Ripon 168, Linden 192


Ripon improved to 2-0 in the VFL after knocking off Linden at the Jack Tone Golf Course.

Ripon’s No. 1 golfer, senior Sienna Stark, was medalist after registering a 7-over 38 during the Indians’ 24-stoke victory. Stark birdied the eighth hole after bogeying the seventh.

Erin Wever shot a 44, and senior Hailey-Rey Rose finished second with a season-best 39 playing out of Ripon’s No. 3 slot. Alyssa DeMara carded a 47 to round out the total against Linden (0-2).



W. Ranch 329, Lathrop DQ


Weston Ranch’s Rochelle Macatangay was the medalist on Tuesday with a 62 as the Cougars improved to 1-2 in the VOL against Lathrop.

Jessica Fotheringham and Mar each carded 64s, while Jennifer Carmona tallied a 72. Sierra Strambler (69) rounded out the total.

Garcia was the team-low with a 67 for Lathrop.
